Jack and the Beanstalk - Educational Chart with Symbols

Jack and the Beanstalk - Food for Thought

Jack and the Beanstalk is a classic English fairy tale. It's a story about a boy who made a seemingly bad bargain exchanging a cow for a few beans. But these beans prove to be magical and give him an opportunity to explore a whole new world. There he finds a giant who is loaded with gold and other precious things.

Jack steals some of them which results in running for his life. Eventually, he kills the giant and starts living in completely different circumstances. This simple story is so popular thanks to its powerful symbolism which is explained in this chart.

The chart was made in Inkscape and free icons from OpenClipart and Pixabay were used. Each image was placed according to the physical position in the story (Jack's world, the giant's world, and elements between), some resizing was required, and additional text was placed below each of the ten selected objects.

If you want to explore even more about the symbols, here is a good place to start:

The symbolism behind each of the presented objects and the context was researched by me. The chart above is made for educational purposes and you can freely use it under the Creative Commons 4.0 licence. If you find this post valuable, please tell your friends. This would be greatly appreciated.

December Calendar with Giuseppe Eugenio Chiorino

Giuseppe Eugenio Chiorino (1871- 1941) was Italian writer, screen writer, and illustrator. He is sometimes referred as a Pre-Raphaelist or representative of Italian Art Nouveau but his style is better described as eclectic.

As a writer he used pseudonym Gech. He was a very productive screenwriter, a member of Societa Anonima Ambrosio which was commited to make 4 (four!) movies per week. He contributed even more for different children's magazines, at first as an illustrator and later as a writer as well.

Later he adopted two more pseudonyms - zio Pepe and ser Faggino. In later years he also worked for radio stations. Below we present his illustration for Spanish magazine Blanco Y Negro which we used for this free printable calendar for December.

Outdoor Christmas Signs

Are you having trouble with your old outdoor Christmas signs? Are they made of wood or cheap plastic and don't look good any more?

It can be really annoying to find out that your last year's sign is not good any more. It can start to fall apart or the colors and pictures are not quite the same any more. Aren't you disappointed when you see this? And why does it has to happen every year? Then you have to go to the store, buy another one, they promised it will last forever, but every year before Christmas time you find out it's not appropriate any more.

Photo Christmas Ornaments

It is that time of the year again... Bringing the box with Christmas ornaments from the attic and decorating the tree is always a bit unpredictable.

Are all the ornaments there or are some missing? Maybe we misplaced the star? Are garlands knotted? Even if we have found them, is everything o.k. with the ornaments in the box? In many cases some will be scratched and cracked. Frankly, it is hard to predict all possible complications.

Outdoor Christmas Ornaments

Christmas time is party time. We all like to celebrate the holidays with our friends, family members and even strangers.

Colorful ornaments are mandatory, but when we try to expand the Christmas joy outside of our homes, not necessary far, maybe only to the yard, orchard or garden, the nature can and will get in the way very fast. The idea of decorating a Christmas tree in the garden, a living tree with unforgettable smell and feel, is not easy to transfer in reality.
